“Like Water” – I painted this portrait of anti-racism educator Rachel Cargle with tears in my eyes the week George Floyd was murdered and America grappled with its systematic racism and long-held systems of white supremacy. The title is inspired by this passage written by Rachel: “I’ve felt like water lately.  Sometimes I’m held up just fine like in a glass or a vase and sometimes I’m a literal puddle – no shape or form or protection.  And then sometimes I feel like a pure involuntary evaporation and I can’t catch myself”.
